If you’re like me, it can be difficult to focus on being proud of your accomplishments. A lot of people are slow to accept praise and quick to accept criticism. Fitness isn’t merely about keeping the body healthy. It’s also about keeping the mind in good shape as well. As a result, you could improve a wide range of things in your life. It all starts with being proud of your accomplishments no matter how small they are.
How a Negative Mindset Affects Your Life
When you’ve been a negative person most of your life, it can be difficult to break the cycle. While things like stress can play a significant role, it still boils down to how well you adapt. Some may even say how pride can be a bad thing. In reality, a lack of pride in yourself and your accomplishments can be just as damaging.
Developing a Lack of Caring
When you don’t have at least a bit of pride in the things you do, it can be easy to develop a lack of caring. You see this all the time when you walk down the street. People will give up on even the smallest things, such as brushing their hair or even taking a shower. It can also affect careers, personal relationships and family life. For many of them, this is because they simply gave up.
Unfortunately, this lack of caring can lead to a myriad of health problems that could have been avoided. Personally, I’ve experienced many of these because I essentially gave up on life. I gained weight, lost most of my teeth, developed a myriad of internal issues and wound up hurting a lot of people around me.
Speaking from experience, it’s important that you do not give up. It’s important that you find the little accomplishments in your life and embellish them. It’s really OK to feel good about yourself, even when the victory is small. You don’t want to develop a lack of caring that can throw you into a tailspin like it did me.
Sapping Your Energy
When you get stuck in a negative frame of mind, it can be quite taxing. Between higher levels of stress, anxiety and frustration, you can be quickly wiped out. I’m not saying that a huge dose of pride will fix all of these issues. However, it will make an impact in changing how your mind views situations.
I know how hard it is to find value in yourself. Not everyone has that amazing sense of confidence to get them through the day. But it’s still important that you find that part of yourself and tap into that sense of pride. Whether you finish writing that novel you started years ago or you wind up moving, you need to get in touch with what makes you a better person. Otherwise, you’ll find you don’t have the energy for anything.
Destroying Who You Are
Wallowing in negativity will begin to break you down. I’m not talking about turning into a puddle of goo while sitting at your computer desk. No. I am talking about destroying who you are on a mental level. When the negativity just keeps piling on and you have no way to fix it, you can start walking a dark path.
A lot of people, who once led happy and filling lives, can start to think about the darkness too often. These once joyful souls may begin to contemplate suicide or other means of self-punishment. Finally, that person can become so distraught that they find very little joy in life at all. I know how it feels.
Taking pride in your accomplishments can give you a sense of worth. It can be helpful to make you realize just how much you do have to offer your family, friends or even strangers. In some ways, it may even help you deal with stress and anxiety depending on the task or situation.
How Do You Take Pride in Accomplishments?
When you think about accomplishments, what’s the first thing that comes into mind? I bet many of you focus on grandiose things like winning the lottery, buying your first house or buying that brand new car you’ve always wanted. However, not all victories need to be wrapped in big and grand goals. Sometimes even the smallest victories can be instrumental in boosting your mental state.
Breaking Down Goals
If you’ve read some of my previous blog posts, I support breaking down goals. This is when you take something huge and break it down into smaller objectives. For example, let’s say you want to lose 80 pounds in four months. Break this down to weekly or even daily objectives you have to meet in order to achieve the primary goal.
Why is breaking down your goals important? Because it gives you a daily accomplishment that you can be proud of. With each smaller portion you achieve, the bigger goal becomes more obtainable. The biggest problem many people have, including myself, is losing sight of what they wish to accomplish. You have to maintain the course if you wish to succeed.
Relish in Your Victories
Even if you walked 200 more steps today than you did yesterday, feel good about the accomplishment. Anything you can do today to improve your life is a step in the right direction. You don’t have to throw yourself a party every time you meet a small goal or achievement. But feel good about yourself for being able to make a difference in your life – even if it’s small.
This will help you develop confidence as well as pride. Like a snowball rolling downhill, each accomplishment adds to your mental state. Over time, it will gain greater power as you begin to find new challenges in your life. Feel good about what you have done to improve yourself.
Ignore the Trolls
There’s a high degree of possibility that you’ll have to face trolls. It’s just how life works. When someone tries to knock you down because you feel good about something small, brush it aside. I know this is difficult to do, but you don’t want to get sucked into that negative mentality. People like this put others down to make themselves feel good. If you don’t let it affect you, then you’ve done more to them then they have to you.
Don’t sacrifice your own accomplishments by letting trolls feel good. Ignore them. Sweep them aside as if they were dead leaves on the lawn. Beside, it’s not them you should be worried about. As long as you feel good about what you have achieved, that is all that really matters.
Getting wrapped up in trolls also has potential to vastly increase your stress levels. This can cause a myriad of health problems both physically and mentally. Let those people wallow in their own filth and ignore them. The last thing you want to add to your life is stress brought on by someone you don’t even know.
When it comes to health, whether it’s physical or mental, a lot of people have second thoughts. Not because they think it’s a bad idea, but because they simply don’t see it being a possibility. Always have pride in your accomplishments. It may make you a far better person than the one you see in the mirror every morning.
