February Challenge and a Look at January

The first month of 2018 is gone after today. How did it bode for you in terms of health and fitness? For me, it was a rocky road. However, it gave me an opportunity to come up with something for the February challenge more along the lines of what I can accomplish.

I can’t really call January an epic failure. Although I only accomplished a handful of my goals for the month, I still lost 7.8 pounds. Unfortunately, this is far lower than I was expecting.

January Challenge Results: Lost 7.8 Pounds

In some areas of the January challenge, I think I bit off more than I could chew. That’s OK, though. It helps me find limitations and reinforces my goals for the February challenge.

The Diet

I was supposed to maintain my Net 600 Calorie Diet using every day foods like Progresso Soups and other edibles I have in the house. While I did OK in the early portion of the days, I did tend to fall of the wagon after dinner on most nights.

During some of the days, I dove right off the wagon and into a vat of pizza. This is still a problem I have, but I am working towards practicing greater self-restraint.

Exercises

AerobicsIt was my plan to put more effort into core exercises. This failed miserably. However, I did vastly increase my calorie burn through playing the Xbox Kinect. In fact, my average burn per week went up 2,100.

The bottom line is my body is simply too weak to maintain all those push-ups. This is what happens when you’re essentially a slug for the past 10 years and go beyond your physical limits.

On the upside, the upper portion of my body is far more defined and solid thanks to playing the Xbox Kinect with weighted gloves. So it wasn’t a complete waste of effort.

Reaching for Top 800

I initially wanted enough points to score in the top 800 of Exercise.com. However, I failed to record most of my workouts. To be honest, I just didn’t make it part of my daily routine.

With all the aerobics I put in this month, I would have come close to breaking 800 if I would have recorded my entries.

YouTube Videos and Pictures

I am a bit disappointed in myself for not remembering to take weekly photos or create YouTube videos. I really don’t have any excuse for this portion other than laziness.

I really need to work on being more active in this sense. I want to…I just don’t think of it often enough. Then, I get mad at myself for not following through.

February Challenge: All About Burning Calories

OK, so here is how the February challenge is going to go for me. This is based on my failings and successes of last month. As I have a habit of putting myself into physical shock, I need to ease into more grueling workouts.

The Calorie Burn

Xbox Kinect PlayThe Xbox Kinect made a huge impact in daily calorie burn. This is because I am performing a few case studies with the games I have. Essentially, I am trying to create content for this website to show how the Kinect is usable as a weight loss device.

I set my calorie goals in Fitbit to burn 3400 per day. Based on my performance in January, this means I need to be a little more active to reach the goal. Perhaps another 20 minutes at the Kinect or maybe a brisk walk around the neighborhood.

My primary concerns are the cardiovascular system and weight loss. These are my biggest weaknesses at the moment, so I need to address them before trying to bench press a small truck.

Net 600 Calorie Diet – Again

I know my Net 600 Calorie Diet works…I just need to follow it. Pretty sad when you think about it. Anyway, I am still going to work on maintaining a net 600 intake according to MyFitnessPal.

Why is this diet plan so important to me? Because it breaks down as burning twice the calories as I eat according to the data I collect. If I eat 1500 calories in a day, it usually comes out burning 3000 before my head hits the pillow.

Because I want to be at my goal weight my May 20th, I need to burn at least half a pound per day. I know I can do more as I’ve done it before. Granted, weight loss slows down with the less fat a body has. But I’m sure I can reach my goals.

Besides, the Net 600 Calorie Diet still gives me more than enough food when I follow it and keep active. I just need to slow down on the late night snacking.

Being More Active on Social Media

Share Workout RoutinesIt’s part of the plan to be more active on social media. This is more to keep myself motivated to maintain diets and exercise as I put myself out there in front of an audience.

The problem is that I am quite a boring person. Nothing really happens in my life that is earth shattering or entertaining. In fact, it takes a lot of effort to come up with content for a five-minute YouTube video.

Maybe I am selling myself short. I am incredibly hard on myself most of the time, and perhaps I am thinking about it too much.

Let’s see if I can maintain a schedule. I’ll produce a new video every Monday while putting up new Instagram pictures at least twice a week.

The hardest part is making sure I follow this segment of the February challenge. I simply don’t think about social media all that often except for when I blog. Maybe setting up a set schedule like I have for my mornings will help keep focus.

Need More Effort

Aside from the exercise, I didn’t put as much effort into the challenges for January. I know I can do better with the February challenge. It’s all about making it happen and keeping focus. I need to return to the same gusto that I had when I weighed 290 pounds. Let’s see if this next month will yield more positive results.
