As my search for the perfect peanut butter chocolate ice cream continues, I came across something that surely ranks among my favorites. The Talenti Peanut Butter Fudge Sorbetto, while a bit costly, is worth every penny.
For being a dairy-free alternative to ice cream, this product was simply amazing. Perhaps my biggest hangup for the frozen dessert is the fact that it’s quite expensive when compared to other brands.
What Is Talenti Peanut Butter Fudge Sorbetto?
Currently, I am on a dairy-free diet to see if it contributes to reducing the effects of psoriasis. And since I love ice cream so much, I needed to find an alternative that tastes great while satisfying my taste buds.
The Talenti Peanut Butter Fudge Sorbetto does this in spades.
It’s a dairy-free frozen dessert made with coconut oil, water and other ingredients which make it vegan friendly as well. Think of it like a cross between ice cream and a sorbet.
It’s not a flavored frozen water as it has a creamy texture.
While the product is somewhat high in terms of calories, I found it to be a delightful surprise. I haven’t tried the other Talenti sorbetto flavors as of yet, but I can’t wait if they’re anything like this dessert.
Why Should You Want Talenti Peanut Butter Fudge Sorbetto?
First of all, this is a dairy-free product. Which is good for those who are lactose intolerant or, like myself, have other health issues where dairy products might cause physical problems.
It’s a great alternative to those who have to avoid dairy but want a nice, cool snack, especially during the hotter months.
Personally, I put this sorbetto among the best dairy-free ice creams on the market…even though technically it’s not an ice cream.
One of the first things I noticed about this Talenti sorbetto is the creamy texture. Each spoonful was like scooping out a layer of silk. I was half-expecting it to be more akin to a sorbet; like eating a slushy from 7-11.
And this was after having it in a deep freezer for more than a day. Which usually turns ice cream into a solid mass especially if peanut butter is involved.
However, the texture was simply amazing.
Amazing Peanut Butter Flavor
I’ve had plenty of peanut butter ice creams in my quest to find the perfect brand. And I can easily state the flavor of this treat was nothing short of incredible. It didn’t have that cheap, cardboard-like, weird peanut butter taste.
Unlike some of the light ice creams I’ve had recently.
Also, the small chunks of peanut butter within the Talenti sorbetto were a nice surprise. The best part is I didn’t have to carve into a huge chunk of frozen peanut butter when scooping out the dessert.
Great Fudge Ripple
As the sorbetto states, there is a good amount of fudge within the snack. And to top it all off, the fudge also has a great taste. It’s a bit reminiscent to Smucker’s Fudge topping. Of course, this is a subjective opinion.
Needless to say, I enjoyed the ripple within the Talenti Peanut Butter Fudge Sorbetto.
I like how the container is a sturdy plastic with a screw-top lid. This means you can eat a proper portion and close up the sorbetto for freshness. Plus, I like using the containers for other purposes.
A Bit Pricey
One thing I need to point out is the price. Talenti products are much higher than similar products in the freezer isle. In my local store, it was a dollar more than the Haagen-Dazs flavors.
However, this might be simply a matter of locale. From what I can see in Google, it’s actually cheaper than Haagen-Dazs from stores like Target.
What Kind of Health Benefits Are In the Product?
As this is a frozen dessert alternative to ice cream, it doesn’t have an overwhelming number of health benefits. While it is low in Sodium compared to other things you can eat, it still has a lot of sugars and carbs.
And don’t count on a large amount of vitamins, especially since this is a dairy-free product.
However, the Talenti Peanut Butter Fudge Sorbetto does have a decent amount of protein per serving: 6g. That’s probably because of the amount of peanut butter that is in the product.
Like other frozen desserts available, this product has a relatively high count in terms of calories. In each serving, you’re looking at 290…which is among some of the highest I’ve seen from even dairy-made ice creams.
Why is it that everything which tastes incredible has to be so high in caloric intake? I have to play 30-minutes of the Xbox Kinect to burn enough calories for a single serving!
But it’s worth it, really.
Will It Work to Help Lose Weight?
If you’re looking for a diet-friendly alternative to ice cream, Talenti is probably not a good fit. The sorbetto still has roughly comparable calories, fats and sugars when compared to ice cream brands.
Now if you eat the dessert according to proper portion sizes, you can get a tasty treat without throwing a weight loss diet out of whack. Of course, you’ll want to make sure you get in some physical activity to burn off those sugars and carbs.
But if you plan on sitting and eating the entire pint, you’re looking at adding:
- 1160 Calories
- 144g of Carbs
- 120g of Carbs from Sugars
- 52g of Total Fat
Which is why I suggest making sure you portion out the sorbetto in 1/2 cup increments. If you do, you’ll only consume a quarter of the numbers above.
Where Can You Get Talenti Peanut Butter Fudge Sorbetto?
I picked up the frozen snack at my local Safeway for $4.99. Which puts it at $1.25 per serving. And since I have a problem when my snacks are the same price of my meals, I don’t think it will be something I buy often.
However, I’ve seen lower prices at Walmart and Target.
What’s the Bottom Line?
In the end, this product has an amazing taste for those who are looking for a peanut butter ice cream alternative. It’s silky smooth texture and overall quality of the product is definitely worth the price the brand is asking.
Like the saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” And in this case, being more expensive than similar products is noticeable for what you get. In other words, I don’t think it’s an over-priced product.
It’s more expensive than I’d like, but it’s also an excellent dessert.[template id=”3591″]
