A Glimmer of Hope; Getting Back to Fitness Blogging

So, I’m trying to get back into fitness blogging after talking quite the hiatus from everything. It’s summer, three weeks till my birthday, and I still have so much work to do. But, getting back into blogging gives me a glimmer of hope.

Now that I’m in my new home, have the office set up, and things are finally settling, I’m confident I can get back into the swing of things.

That is as long as my clients give me some breathing room.

Why the Lapse in Fitness Blogging?

If you haven’t been following the blog or the YouTube channel, there’s been quite a lapse in content. I haven’t really been doing much with CrossingColorado.com.

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get back into videos as regularly as I want. But, I can get more content up on the website at least.

Google Sunk the Site

After Google torpedoed the blog in June of 2019, my heart just wasn’t in the process. I went from more than 200 visits per day down to 15 to 20 literally overnight.

Actually, it was in less than five hours.

This blog was clumped in with all of those other health and fitness sites that were hit as being misleading or fraudulent. Which really upset me as everything in this blog is backed by scientific evidence.

In other words, I just don’t talk out of my ass.

Had a Very Rough 10 Months

Over the last 10 months, I’ve:

  • lost one of my children to suicide
  • had a very close friend accidentally kill himself
  • was evicted from a rental because the landlord wanted to sell the house
  • lived in a hotel for a month and a half during a pandemic
  • broke up with a very great woman
  • and had to empty my retirement savings.

Needless to say, my heart really wasn’t all that focused on fitness blogging. In fact, the only thing that really got any attention from me was my writing channels. But, that’s because I still have bills to pay.

WriterSanctuary and the work I do for clients is always a priority.

Now, though, I am feeling much better and ready to tackle on the last half of 2020. Virus be damned, I am going to finish the year on a high note.

Besides, I always play better on the back nine.

Still Trying to Recover the Website

And the last thing that’s made it difficult to get back into writing is the fact that this website is a mess at the moment. The themes are locking up, some of the plugins are causing speed issues, and it’s been a pain to appease the Google gods.

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to see what I can do to get the site back up to where it was prior to the Google algorithm change. Unfortunately, that’s going to be somewhat difficult thanks to how strict the system is as of late.

However, I view it as a challenge and it’ll give me content to share on my other YouTube channels.

How Fitness Blogging Helps Me Focus

Creating this blog was never about making money or trying to become some fitness influencer. It was more of a way to help me remain focused when I weighed 300 pounds. It was a record of my journey to save my life.

Today, I feel it’s time to get back into it and give myself some hope of a better future. Not only for me, but perhaps someone out there can relate and change their own habits for the better.

Reminds Me of What I’m Trying to Do

Fitness blogging helps me maintain focus on what I’m trying to do with my life. After my heart stopped in 2016, I felt it was time to take steps to prevent that from happening again.

One of my biggest problems when it comes to fitness, in general, is forgetting. I get so busy during the day that I ignore my workout alarms and forget to pick up the weights.

Getting back into a regular schedule for fitness blogging helps remind me that I need to do certain things. Like today, I am working on my quest to lift a ton of weight every day for 30 days.

For me, it’s all about the data. And I really miss doing case studies on myself regarding certain activities.

Giving Me Confidence to Accomplish My Goals

Going through self-doubt is a terrible thing when it comes to various aspects of your life. From choosing the right career path to finding a mate, not having confidence can easily alter your timeline.

Blogging about my accomplishments and reminding myself of what I’m trying to do helps build up my level of confidence. When I write about my experiences, I honestly feel like I can meet my health and fitness goals.

This is especially true when you consider that blogging and doing the YouTube channel contributes to a sense of accountability through visitors.

Fitness Blogging Makes Myself Accountable

One of the reasons why I still push for making this blog work and finding time to do the YouTube videos is to hold myself accountable. Because in reality, when it comes to your health and fitness, you’re only really accountable to yourself.

This means it’s incredibly easy to talk yourself out of eating certain things or getting those 15 minutes of exercise. Because, what are the repercussions for not working on self-improvement?

It’s not like you can fire yourself. So, you need to find methods that work for you that helps you restore accountability.

Not looking like an idiot in front of a mass audience does this for me. It’s a whole different ball game when you even think that eyes are on your progress.

Currently…

I am working on my Net 600 Diet and really sticking with it this time. So far, I’ve lost five pounds in the last week and now wear a 32-inch waist in shorts and pants. I haven’t been in a 32 since high school back in the 1990s.

Since my son is adamant about losing the rest of his weight and joining the Air Force by the end of the month, I decided to challenge him. Who can lose the most in the month of July?

Unfortunately for me, he’s 21 and on Keto. So, I bet he’ll drop the weight wicked fast. Being 44, my metabolism is far slower than his.

But we’ll see what happens. Unlike my son, I still work up a sweat as often as I can. And now that my schedule helps curb my problem of night-time snacking, I can get back to losing the weight.

One of the things I have planned for fitness blogging is recording how many calories I can burn with the Bodyblade. I’m in the middle of recording that data, so that’ll probably be the next post I write.

Do You Have a Creative Outlet?

Blogging isn’t always about making money or becoming a famous influencer in your niche. Sometimes, it’s good just to get things out in written format and work through personal issues.

Will this blog return to the size it was before in terms of traffic? I have no idea. But I’m going to get back into fitness blogging if nothing else than for myself.

Besides, it helps me reach my one million word goal for 2020.
