500G Challenge: Day 2

Last Updated on March 9, 2016 by Michael Brockbank

Day one was a success even though I pigged out at Taco Bell at lunch. Today, I won’t have the luxury of being in town to do that again. That’s OK, though. I really don’t need that many calories. I am feeling really good today about burning more and keeping myself from over-doing any of my meals. I do need to note that my glutes and hamstrings are killing me thanks to my workout yesterday.

Hours Slept: 6hrs 36mins

I got a bit more sleep today, but only because I went back to bed after my six o’clock alarm. I have a hard time sleeping at night, and I haven’t had more than eight hours in a very long time. I am going to start drinking Emergen-Z to see if that helps get some shut-eye.

Weight This Morning: 280.0lbs

So, I was right about losing a bunch of weight after gorging myself during the weekend. I probably would be in the 270s if I wouldn’t have ate all that Taco Bell yesterday. It’s all good, though…I can do better today. I just need to be sensible when it comes to breakfast and lunch.

Foods I Ate Today

On any average week day, I am limited by what I bring to work in Iliff when it comes to breakfast and lunch. This is because there are no other businesses in the area aside from my liquor store. It’s quite beneficial for someone who loves food, actually. There is no real temptation to gorge myself.

Breakfast: 330 Calories
Like most days, I rely on my default of Cream of Wheat and berries. In one sitting, I can get all of my vitamin C and iron. Although this is an incredibly nutritious breakfast, I usually eat it because it’s one of my favorites.

Lunch: 290 Calories
Today, I ate a bowl of Progresso Tomato Rotini and had a 5.5oz can of V8. I thought for sure that this was going to be way too much tomato for me as I get heart burn relatively easy. Fortunately for me, that wasn’t the case today. I didn’t have a single problem, but I think some of that was due to drinking a lot of water.

Dinner: 520 Calories
My dinner was a bit more than I realized at first, but I rode my bike for a mile and a half to make up the difference in calories. I had the Progresso Homestyle Steak and Noodles since it was only 180 calories for the whole can. My wife made me an egg sandwich to go with it, but she accidentally cooked two eggs instead of one. It’s OK, though. I was able to still keep above 500 in the green by the end of the night.

Snacks: 550 Calories
My snacks were a little bad but still way below average for me. I had two 18oz bottles of Emerge, two Cadbury chocolate eggs, and a pouch of Starkist Chunk Light Tuna in Water. In retrospect, this is a hell of a lot better than I normally do when it comes to snacking.

Water: 8 Cups
I’ve been trying to get more water in my day, especially since I’m using Emerge. Instead of a pot or two of coffee, I’ve been trying natural alternatives to give me a boost to the day such as waters that are heavy in various B vitamins. Unfortunately, they’re not doing anything for my caffeine headaches – which haven’t been too bad. Still, I’ve downed more water during this challenge than I did the last.

Significant Workouts: 477 Calories Burnt

I burned up a bit more than 111 calories going for my 1.59 mile bike ride tonight. I wanted to make sure I could have a full dinner and still maintain over 500 calories left. I didn’t get as much activity as I did yesterday only because I have been exhausted all day. My lack of sleep this week is taking its toll.

Calories Remaining for the Day: 547

Just squeaked by with the calories today. It was still an achievement, and I’m happy with the results. Tomorrow will be better. It’s a workout day at the gym for some weight training. I just need to make sure I get a bit of cardio at some point today before we head off to the rec center. I plan on having my creamy pasta for lunch tomorrow and it’s a bit heavier than other Progresso soups.
