Fitness Challenge: Decent Progress After Three Weeks

Last Updated on May 10, 2017 by Michael Brockbank

After week three, I’ve started to see a bit more progress in this weight loss challenge. I am down to 233.6 and am confident I should be in the 220s by next Wednesday. I am a bit disappointed in my performance this time around, though. I should be under 230 by now.

Starting to Come Together for Progress

losing weight fastThis week was more productive than the last. Although I am still having a few minor problems that prevent me from losing more weight, I am still doing OK in terms of totals. After all, my average so far is just over two pounds per week. In reality, I should be hitting three per week.

With only one week to go, I’m going to have to hunker down if I want to lose 3.7 pounds. Remember, my goal is to be in the 220s by the time I leave for my son’s graduation. Technically, that’s not until the 23rd…so I have no doubt that I will reach my goal by then.

However, I wanted to be in the 220s by the 17th as part of this challenge. I’m still beating my friend who hasn’t lost as much as I have so far.

Burnt Through 22,629 Calories

I definitely increased my activity this past week by burning more than 1,000 additional calories. For me, this is the equivalent of about two and a half 5k walks. I was able to somewhat sustain 3,232.7 calories burnt per day.

I still haven’t been able to get back into a routine of waking up at 6:00 am. I’ll keep trying, but it’s far more difficult for me than I thought it would be. I think I am under a bit more stress at the moment with everything that is going on. I am moving soon, my friend’s mom recently passed, I am constantly in pain because of my working conditions and much more.

Until I can find my groove, all I can really do is keep trying to take it day at a time to burn as much as I can without passing out. I might get a few additional calories burnt this last week as I am going to start packing up my things. I want to make sure I don’t forget anything as it may take months to get it back to Colorado from Los Angeles.

As I am also in a challenge to see how many lying leg raises I can do to break my record, the last few days have been pretty active. Unfortunately, my food intake slowed the progress down a bit.

Ate Way too Much!

overeating snacks depressionSo this last week, I consumed 2,414 calories per day on average. Which is a lot more than I wanted. Luckily, it didn’t impact my weight loss too much. I probably could have lost another pound if it wasn’t for the incessant snacking.

It’s not too bad of a problem, currently. I am doing a pretty good job at burning the carbs I take, so that’s some kind of progress anyway. I just need to be more aware of how much junk I am eating at night. Throughout the day, it’s pretty minimal. But at night, when sitting and watching Netflix or YouTube, I start the binge eating.

Then there are those days when I throw caution to the wind and snack just enough to stay under then number of calories I burning throughout the day. This means I almost break even on those particular days.

In reality, I am still eating less today than I was a year ago. Back then, I would have easily grizzed through these bags of Chips Ahoy Chewy cookies. Now, they are lasting me far longer as I try to keep everything in moderation.

On the up side, I did increase my fruit intake recently. Currently, I use Trader Joe’s mixed berries as a snack after breaking the bag up into one-third serving zip-lock bags. Any improvement beyond your normal routine is positive progress, no matter how small.

Not Nearly Enough Water

My water intake this last week was really lacking. I am truly disappointed in myself. Again, it’s a simple matter of remembering to drink water. Yesterday, I didn’t have a single cup! I only averaged 37 ounces of water per day. This is on top of the coffee and teas I normally drink.

As this is my last week, I want to end it well. I need to remember to fill up my water bottle at least three times per day. In fact, I’ll go fill it up right now.

My biggest problem is still remembering to drink water. I get so wrapped up in my day that I simply don’t keep it in mind to grab it. I’ll try harder, but with everything happening now, it’s really difficult.

Getting More Sleep

Lack of SleepThis week I did a bit better on average sleep. I’m still not getting enough, though. I average 6.7 hours per night. I need to figure out how to get myself to unwind at night. I’ve tried almost everything. I am fairly sure that my level of stress is still playing a part in keeping me up.

Again, I am sure I can cut down caloric and sugar intake if I can go to bed earlier. A lot of my snacking time is coming after 10:00 pm. The Sleepy Time tea does a good job of keeping me down, but I just can’t get to that point. I’ll lay in bed and toss for more than an hour.

3.7 Pounds to Go in 7 Days…It’s Progress

Losing almost four pounds in a week is doable, even without drugs or starving myself. Remember, I am trying to lose weight in a healthy way. My progress the past few weeks have been a bit less than stellar, but I’m still proud of myself for pushing to see it through. I guess we’ll see if I can maintain a healthy disposition before packing up the van to head back to Colorado.
