What kind of relationship do you have with food? In this episode of Fitness in Theory, we talk about how we look at food and the emotional connections we make while eating and dieting.

If you’re a stress eater, like me, it can be a complicated relationship. However, it’s not set in stone as long as you can manage yourself during stressful moments.

This week, despite having such a terrible past few days, I refrained from pigging out like I normally do on peanut butter and chocolate milk. For me, that’s a win.

The Relationship You Have with Food Matters

Today, we also talk about how rewarding yourself with food can be detrimental to health and fitness goals. In fact, Sam dives into Google and pulls some information about how experts believe rewarding children with food can cause eating disorders later in life.

We also dive into a few of my own mental issues, especially when it comes to throwing food away. I was raised to always clean my plate, and it affects a lot of how I prepare meals nowadays.

That’s because I take the time to properly portion out meals. That way, I don’t have to throw anything away considering I only make what I intend to eat logically. Of course, this also greatly reduces the amount of trash I have to throw out every week.

I’m probably one of the few people on the block whose trash does smell like roses. Well, at least the Febreeze-scented plastic bag.

How Would You Classify Your Relationship with Food?

From the happiness chocolate provides while depressed to raising your children to “clean the plate,” the sheer mindset of eating can have a lasting impact on your life. And for some of us, those bad eating habits are exceptionally difficult to break.

However, you can deal with them as long as you’re conscious of the behavior.
