Keeping track of your intake is extremely useful for health and fitness. Not only does it help you maintain a diet to lose weight, but it can also show you a lot of great information about yourself. Are you using something to track your food?
There are tons of ways to monitor your intake today. From notebooks to mobile apps, you really have no excuse not to track your food unless you truly do not want to. But speaking from experience, using something like MyFitnessPal has been a game-changer for my weight loss journey.
Not only that, but it’s also helped me identify certain foods that trigger specific issues.
Food Journals Are Everywhere!
What you eat plays a prominent role in how you feel both physically and mentally throughout the day. When using a food journal, you can track down what foods are affecting you in specific ways.
For example, I used to have a major problem with heartburn. Using MyFitnessPal helped me identify the source as overeating. Then, I took to Google and found several studies that also highlight overeating as a contributor to heartburn.
In any case, tracking your food can help you discover all kinds of things about what foods affect you in specific ways. It’s worth a try if you’re having certain issues that you can identify.
You don’t have to use MyFitnessPal. There is an ever-growing list of ways you can track food consumption. We use MyFitnessPal because the free version is still semi-usable, despite Under Armor doing its best to castrate the app unless you upgrade to the “premium” service.
I also like using the Fitspiration book. It goes a bit further than a simple journal as it also has sections where you can enter how you feel, your goals, and displays inspirational sayings.
What Works Best for You?
Now, does this mean you won’t lose weight if you don’t track your food? Absolutely not. It just makes keeping yourself accountable a lot easier. When you start tallying up all the junk you eat in a day, it can be quite the eye-opener.
Find something that works best for you and really dive into it.
