How often do you find food choices affecting your life? In reality, what we eat can make a profound impact on how we feel outside of packing on the pounds. In this episode of Fitness in Theory, we discuss how eating can directly affect quite a bit of your day.
Whether it’s your overall mood or simply how you feel physically, too much junk can make you feel likewise. I know I feel tons better throughout the day when I’m actively paying attention to what I eat.
This doesn’t mean you should avoid what some call “junk” food altogether. Everyone has a different experience due to genetics, metabolism, and general physiology. But if you find yourself not feeling well, lethargic, more stressed than normal, or otherwise just not yourself, take a closer look at the food you eat. You could be causing yourself a lot of issues because of what you had for breakfast this morning.
You Are What You Eat?
This is an old saying from back in the day, and I haven’t really heard much about it over the past couple of years. However, it still rings true no matter how you slice it up.
As I said, this goes well beyond just packing on the fat.
Your body is going to utilize everything you swallow. And since the brain requires a specific balance of nutrients to function properly, of course your food choices are going to affect moods and cognitive function.
Those who suffer from gluten allergies (technically celiac disease) can attest to how they feel when not on a non-gluten (wheat) diet.
So, before you start looking for a therapist, take a closer look at your intake. The foods you are eating right now could be causing everything from depression to sleep disruptions. Personally, I like to track everything I eat in MyFitnessPal. It’s a free app that you can use to monitor intake and possibly see patterns in your behavior and such with what you put into your body.
