I Wasn’t Able to Gorge Myself Like I Wanted On My Birthday

Birthday Gluttony

I had a goal on my birthday: to enjoy the day and eat whatever I wanted. And I did, in fact, do just that. However, I wasn’t able to gorge myself on a lot of the snacks that I bought like I wanted. This is because my stomach has shrunk since weighing 300 pounds. I just can’t pack it away like I used to.

I guess this is a good thing, in retrospect. Without being able to fill myself up with 5,000 calories worth of junk, I won’t gain as much weight after bingeing for a day.

Still, I have a few issues that I knew would come from a day of gluttony.

Kind of Disappointing, But Not Really

All year, all I wanted to do was sit back and watch some shows while snacking on Hershey bars and frosting for my birthday. I wasn’t going to count any calories and pig out on some of the things I rarely get to sink my teeth into.

Unfortunately, I didn’t even get to finish my brownies. And I was only able to put away five small, snack-sized Hersheys with about two servings worth of cream cheese frosting.

So, my day of gluttony wasn’t at all what I was expecting, and I am slightly disappointed.

Then again, I suppose this is a testament to the work I’ve put in and how it would take a great deal of effort to get back to 300 pounds on my part. Nowadays, I just can’t put the same amount of food in me that I did five years ago.

I can’t really say that I’m all that disappointed, though. I’m actually a bit proud of myself for not being able to stuff my face as I imagined. Although I am paying for it today, thanks to heartburn and a few other bathroom issues, I was still able to have some tasty treats on my birthday.

I haven’t bought a small pint of frosting for the sole purpose of spooning it out in years. It tasted awesome, but I really don’t need to eat the entire thing in one sitting.

What About the Leftovers?

Left Over Snacks
Lots of Snacks Left Over

In reality, I’m pretty good about being able to portion out my snacks. This means that leftover chocolate bars, frosting, and cookies will probably last me quite a while. Especially if I am turning up the heat over the next 10 weeks.

Not to mention that I have teenagers who would gladly help me work on the rest of the snacks.

This is how I’ve lost so much weight to begin with. It’s all about portion control and making sure you burn more than you consume. So, I am confident that having these things in the house isn’t going to throw a wrench into the works of what I’m trying to do.

I really didn’t buy as much as I wanted, which is probably a good thing. There is so much left over that I didn’t snack on, anything more might have gone bad before actually getting to it.

And I HATE wasting food of any kind.

So, What’s Next?

I am now in full production mode. I might have a bit of cake this weekend, as my daughter and I are practicing for the fair. She’s making a beach-themed cake while mine is the Earth Stargate complete with the event horizon.

But with the amount of effort I’m putting in starting today, I’ll easily be able to burn off any cake I have.

Getting Used to My Virtual Smash Rounds

Lately, I’ve noticed that I’m not getting nearly as winded or as sore after playing Virtual Smash. This means my body is starting to acclimate to the process again. I’m pretty excited as this means I’m another day closer to increasing the weights and rounds.

Instead of twice a day, I’ve only been playing in the mornings. That’s something else I need to work on, especially since it helps me burn several hundred calories relatively quickly.

Still, I find it pretty awesome that I’ve adapted so well over the past week.

Instead of 12 rounds while wearing one-pound weighted gloves, I’m closer to 18 rounds while wearing three pounds, which is what I used to do.

Time to Do Some Work

One of the things I want to do by the end of the 12-week fitness challenge is to pose for a calendar shoot for a very good friend of mine. This means I want to do more than just lose the fat…I want a bit of definition and slightly more bulk.

I was debating on paying for a gym membership, but that would kind of defeat some of the purpose behind this blog and the YouTube channel. I want to show what a desk jockey can do from home in terms of fitness.

In reality, this is a good experiment to run. Can I get into an awesome physique for this calendar shoot without actually going to a gym? If I succeed, that would make an impressive video.

At any rate, I have my dumbbells here and plan on lifting quite a bit over the next 10 weeks.

Since I’m also running an experiment for breaking my personal push-up record, I need to start planning specific routines. And because I don’t have a lot of time to dump into them, they’ll need to be short and effective.

So, I’ll probably wind up doing quite a few reviews next week for all the different pieces of equipment I have here. Maybe even a list or two of my favorite uses for those units.

For example, a list of my favorite exercises to do with a Swiss ball might be helpful. Or, what workouts do I do with 20-pound dumbbells? You know, something more helpful than just a running log of me losing weight.

It Was a Good Day

Despite going a bit hog wild in terms of eating, I actually think I kept the caloric intake down a lot better than I would have thought. Like I said, I just can’t pack it away like I used to.

If I would have to estimate how much I ate on my birthday, it would probably range around the 4000-4500 calorie range. Mostly because those chocolate peanut butter brownies were 600 calories each, and I had just over 3 of them.

At any rate, I’ve already started my day amazingly and am looking forward to the next 10 weeks. Let’s see what I can do and if I can meet some goals.
