Officially In Maine! Where Do I Go From Here?

Now that I am officially a resident of Maine, it’s time to start thinking about health and fitness goals. Despite my best intentions, the eating habits throughout this whole ordeal were anything but helpful.

I am still without all of my fun gadgets and gear, such as my scale and my home exercise equipment. However, I can still use the apps on my phone. Plus, I still have a membership at Planet Fitness for the moment.

Don’t Know How Much I Weigh

For someone who loves tracking data and information, not having my Renpho scale available is really screwing with my chi. I’m pretty sure I lost some weight last week, as I was working freight and stocking shelves. But I don’t know for sure or by how much.

And it might be a while before I can step on a digital scale again.

So, I’ll have to go by visuals and how my clothes fit. Currently, my nice pair of pants for work fit much looser than when I started. I may have lost as much as an inch last week along my waist.

Being at a lower altitude is already having an effect on my health. For one thing, it’s much easier to breathe. My oxygen level gained 4% on average, which might contribute to improving my polycythemia.

Goals for the Week

Now that I have a regular 8-hour job, I need to be a bit more conscious about my time. As in, I don’t have a lot of it. Between working full time, being a full-time student, and trying to be an author and content creator, my day is pretty full.

That means making goals that are more realistic for what I’m doing at the moment.

Keeping MyFitnessPal Green

I’ve set my calorie goals to 1,700 in MyFitnessPal. Even if I do nothing else all day, I’ll still burn at least 2,000 calories. As long as I can keep my intake to logical and reasonable levels, I’ll still lose weight.

I’ll still be able to eat more if I have an exceptionally active day, as the Fitbit will adjust the goal for calories burned. But it takes a bit more to “earn” those extra goodies as opposed to the Net 600 Calorie diet.

The hard part is monitoring the carb intake. Cheap foods are usually the ones that are heavy with carbohydrates and have less nutritional value. And when you’re poor, you don’t have a lot of options for a healthy balance.

However, it’s possible to still lose weight, especially if you’re physically active. Since I’m starting my new job this week, virtually on my feet 8 hours per day, that shouldn’t be too difficult.

More Steps Before Winter

It’s still warm enough in Maine to go for regular walks. I’m going to miss the little track I had cut into my backyard, but there are plenty of places to walk here. In fact, there are a lot of beautiful trails that cut through the surrounding forests and along streams and rivers.

I also believe that I’ll get quite a few steps walking around the hotel at my new job. We’ll have to see how active this new job is compared to working freight.

I know that when I was unloading the truck and stocking shelves, I was burning more than 4,000 calories per day while racking up to 17,000 steps. I doubt the hotel will be as grueling, but I won’t be able to sit there and snack all day, either.

If I can make a few extra bucks, I might just buy a treadmill for the backroom of the new apartment. Until then, I’ll see how often I can get walking before the snow begins to fall. From what I hear, I don’t want to go walking around Maine in the winter.

Bodyweight Exercises

Although I don’t have my exercise equipment and might be a bit too busy for the gym for the next few weeks, I’d like to do some bodyweight exercises. Perhaps I can go back to the idea of breaking some personal records.

Of course, my entire apartment is hardwood, and I don’t have a yoga or exercise mat. There is a Five Below about 10 minutes from here, though. I can probably pick up a few things for cheap and go from there.

I mean, you can usually get exercise equipment from Five Below for relatively cheap. In reality, you can get quite a few things for fitness for less than $30.

Until then, I’ll try to do a few things that don’t require lying down or a softer surface. Things like push-ups and jumping jacks should be easy enough without a rug or mat.

New Location, New Me?

Part of my moving to Maine involves me changing some habits and beginning anew in almost every way. There is so much that I wanted to do for myself, as well as the blogs and YouTube channels that I never got around to. Mostly because of procrastination.

Yes, my life was (and is) quite chaotic at times. But a lot my issues over the past few months could have been avoided if I stuck to my schedules and plans. Well, that, and taking a lot of things in my life for granted.

Since moving to Maine, I’ve been trying not to procrastinate and make things happen as I go. That’s why the Michael Brockbank YouTube channel has a few videos during this process. It doesn’t take but five minutes to make an update video. So, why not record one?

The bottom line is that I want this next chapter of my life to be something spectacular. But that awesomeness isn’t going to just fall into my lap. Essentially, I need to follow my own advice and put a bit more effort into reaching the things I want to accomplish.

I have a lot of bad habits to break. But as I shatter each one, we’re going to see some serious shit.

Let’s Make Some Magic Happen!

That loud popping sound you might have heard over the weekend was my head exiting my ass. There is still a lot I want to accomplish, and doing so means taking action and not getting sucked into feelings of inadequacy.

Yes, I still struggle with impostor syndrome in many ways.

Ever since I arrived in Maine, everything just feels right. I feel like I am home, and I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do with this opportunity. The trick is to not get sucked into the habits of the past and keep my eyes on the future.

I’m sure I have a bit of magic left in me. Let’s see what I can conjure.
