As my search for a good alternative to Farr’s Ice Cream chocolate peanut butter continues, I came across something new to me: Alden’s Organic Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars. And although they sound delicious, I was somewhat less than impressed.

However, a lot of my lack of enthusiasm for this product may be due to the fact that my local Safeway is incapable of keeping ice cream cold.

What are Alden’s Organic Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars?

Alden’s Organic Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars are a dessert good for those looking to cut out processed elements from their daily snacking. It’s a decent alternative to some of the other healthier peanut butter chocolate treats out there.

However, I don’t know if it’s actually worth the price when compared to other products I’ve had in the past.

If you don’t like chocolate peanut butter ice cream, you may want to skip this one.

Why Should You Want Alden’s Organic Ice Cream Bars?

In reality, the only thing I can say about why anyone would want this product is to veer from processed foods. It’s organic, and that’s pretty much the most important factor behind Alden’s Organic Peanut Butter Bars.

When comparing nutritional values, it’s pretty close to being on par with various other brands on the market. While it’s about 50 – 70 calories less per serving than some of the others I’ve come across, I’m not sure the quality supports the difference.

And the price is higher than you’d expect from a box of 4 bars.

Less than Impressive Taste

Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with the taste of this product. While it’s better than some of the other lower-quality goods I’ve had in the past, it’s definitely not one of my top five.

The chocolate had an OK taste to it, but it wasn’t nearly as pronounced as some of the other ice cream bars I’ve had in the past. However, the peanut butter used was better than average.

Because You Want to Burn Money

Perhaps the biggest downfall to this product is its overall price. As each bar is more than $1.25 each, it’s a bit expensive for me to eat during the summer. Especially when there are so many alternatives available.

For about $5, you only have 4 bars in the box. This is nearly double the price of what I can pick up at Costco. And this is considering the health food section, which is usually more expensive anyway.

Weird Texture and Separation

Peanut Butter Separates

This is where I think Safeway has more to do with ruining this ice cream than the manufacturer. The peanut butter was slightly separated from the chocolate. It also had somewhat of a weird texture when eating it.

Personally, it looks as though it was frozen, melted and then refrozen. This is why I am going to try another box in the future. I want to make sure that it’s the product and not the store.

If it is, I’ll change my review of the product.

Needless to say, the actual ice cream bar did not look like the picture on the box.

Good Peanut Butter Taste

Although I didn’t find the Alden’s Organic Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars to be overly impressive, I do have to say the peanut butter had a decent taste.

Over the last few months, I’ve had some terrible peanut butter in chocolate ice cream. Some even tasted like powdered cardboard with a peanut butter taste. However, I can say this one wasn’t all that bad.

Unfortunately, it’s simply not enough to warrant buying this ice cream bar on a regular basis. Between the chocolate taste and the price, it’s just not worth it for me.

What Kind of Health Benefits Are In It?

Nutrition FactsThe most notable health value in Alden’s Organic Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars is the fact they’re organic. Nutritionally, they are close to so many other brands in the freezer section of virtually any store.

According to the brand, there are no growth hormones used in the cows that deliver the dairy portion of the ice cream. In other words, No GMOs!

This product is a bit lower in total carbohydrates and sugars as I’ve seen in other chocolate peanut butter types. Unfortunately, that’s about it. Calcium, vitamins and even the calories are similar to far less expensive alternatives.

Will It Work to Help Lose Weight?

In reality, anything can help you lose weight if you monitor how much of it you eat. With that being said, the Alden’s Organic Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream isn’t anything too grandiose for weight loss.

In fact, the calorie count is double for healthier products that are about a dollar cheaper per box. For example, anything from Chilly Cow is far better in terms of health and weight loss.

When compared to other forms of similar snacks, this one is a bit lower for things like carbs and total fats. But it’s the overall number of calories per serving that tosses up a red flag for myself…especially since there are so many other far better healthy ice creams out there.

Where Can You Get Alden’s Organic Chocolate Peanut Butter?

I picked up my box of Alden’s Organic Chocolate Peanut Butter from the local Safeway. It was on sale for $4.99 per box. Which is one of the biggest reasons why I’ll probably not buy this product again.

Personally, I like my ice cream bars to be less than what it costs to make dinner for myself.

Unfortunately, my Safeway seems anti-ice cream as their freezers have never worked. Because of this, I am tempted to try the product once more from a better source. This way I can make sure it’s not the store ruining the flavor of the ice cream in this review.

If this is the case, I’ll gladly rewrite the article.

What’s the Bottom Line?

You’d think with a name like Alden’s Organic Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars and a hefty price tag would equal quality. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case in my situation. I really didn’t like the overall taste or the fact that it’s so expensive.

I can’t really blame it on the fact that it’s because the product is “organic.” I’ve had some excellent GMO-free foods recently. This one is just poorly put together.

From a health and taste perspective, Chilly Cow and the health brand from Costco are far superior in every way.

Of course, this is just my opinion. You may like this one…but I truly do not. Which is disappointing as I would love nothing more than to find a high-quality chocolate peanut butter ice cream that isn’t super high in calories.[template id=”3591″]
