Looking for a good protein bar that has decent health benefits? The Oh Yeah! One protein bar has potential as a good snack. It’s a bit heavier in the calories than I normally like, but I still found myself enjoying the product.
In this case, it’s the blueberry cobbler flavor. And I have to say, I was quite impressed with the flavor.
What Is the One Protein Bar, Blueberry Cobbler?
The One protein bar is just like many others of the same type. It’s a protein-packed snack you can pick up at many fitness product stores. The reason I picked it is because of the blueberry taste…which was nothing short of amazing.
In terms of calories, it’s a bit more dense than others I’ve had in the past. The blueberry cobbler sits at 220 calories, which is slightly higher than my normal snacks. However, the trade-off is the higher amount of protein.
The blueberry cobbler delivers 20g per bar. It’s one of the highest I’ve seen in a product like this.
In reality, this is slightly lower than my normal breakfast of Maxpro Elite powder in milk, which is 38g of protein and 267 calories. However, my breakfast has far more sodium and 10 times the cholesterol than the One protein bar.
Why Should You Want One Protein Bar?
Like any other protein bar, this product is great for those who are on the move or need a snack when working out. For example, I have a problem with pushing myself too hard and causing my blood-sugar level to drop. Something like this would greatly help.
Because of the higher calories, carbohydrate and protein count, the One protein bar is probably better suited for those who are physically active. For instance, a computer geek like myself is less likely to burn the carbs and calories throughout the day.
On the other hand, it’s better than having a bowl of ice cream. Not to mention how proteins help facility weight loss as well as other benefits.
The biggest downside to the One protein bar is how much more expensive it is than competing brands. Depending where you buy it, the blueberry cobbler can hit anywhere between $1.75 and $2.00 each.
Might not sound like a lot unless you don’t have the money…such as myself. Using the whey powder in milk runs about $1.78 per serving, so it’s on par for what I would expect of high-protein supplements.
I would like to point out the taste of the blueberry cobbler. When compared to similar flavors from other brands, this one definitely made my day.
But, keep in mind that it’s a supplement-like products. Which means it has a similar texture and taste to others that use whey powders and other components.
What Kind of Health Benefits Are In It?
The blueberry cobbler One protein bar doesn’t have a lot of vitamin content. Though it provides 40% of your daily value of protein according to a 2,000 calorie diet, it lacks vitamin-based nutrition as seen in other supplements.
However there is a bit of calcium, potassium and phosphorus in the One protein bar, so it’s not completely devoid of vitamins.
For those who watch their intake, this product is certified gluten-free. This is great for those who have an allergic reaction to gluten or simply want to stay away from it.
High in Fiber
Each blueberry cobbler bar is loaded with 10g of dietary fiber. This is about 36% of what you need throughout the day. Fiber helps your digestive tract and assists in regulating blood-sugar levels. [note]https://www.positivehealthwellness.com/diet-nutrition/what-does-fiber-do-to-your-body/[/note]
Low Sodium Content
The One protein bar doesn’t have a great deal of sodium to it. In the blueberry cobbler, it only sits at about 105mg per serving. This is lower than most of my other snacks, mainly because I like veggie chips and such.
Sugar Alcohol as Maltitol
Sugar alcohol comes in many forms today. It’s used as a sweetener as opposed to raw sugar to help reduce carbs and blood sugar levels. However, One protein bar is made with Maltitol. It’s a sugar alcohol that is one of the closest to sugar in terms of taste.
It will also cause spikes in blood-sugar levels, so diabetics may want to look for an alternative. [note]https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/sugar-alcohols-good-or-bad#section2[/note]
Low Fat Content
The blueberry cobbler consists of 8g of fat. This is 10% of your daily value, and might be too high for some people. This is probably due to the fact that this product is made with milk. In either case, the fat content is still lower than most of my previous snacks.
It’s only 2g more than my protein shake I normally have in the mornings, but still far less than something like a Blue Bunny ice cream snack.
Will It Work to Help Lose Weight?
The One protein bar at Max Muscle is more geared towards weight training and building mass. Although it’s not specifically stated as a weight loss alternative to eating, it does have elements that promote slimming down.
With that being said, the protein count in this product alone is enough to help by increasing the number of calories you burn. It also helps reduce your appetite, which contributes to less intake throughout the day. [note]https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/how-protein-can-help-you-lose-weight#section4[/note]
According to some studies, higher proteins can curb snacking in general. For me, this is probably an ideal product. One of my biggest issues is not putting the fork down after 7pm. Which is the biggest reason I haven’t lost more weight than I have. [note]https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20847729[/note]
Where Can You Get It?
I actually won my One protein bar for free when making a purchase at my local Max Muscle. However, I’ve seen them available in many places on the Internet such as Amazon. Unfortunately, they can get as high as $2.08 per bar.
You can also find the blueberry cobbler in stores like GNC and other fitness-related businesses.
What’s the Bottom Line?
In the end, the One protein bar is a pretty good snack, especially for those looking to lose weight or are into weight training. The blueberry cobbler has a good taste and I didn’t feel hungry for a while afterwards. The only real problem I have is the price.
I usually try to keep my budget for meals and snacks below $1.50 each. However, I can see how this could be a good supplement for a quick lunch or breakfast if you’re on the go.[template id=”3591″]
