There are a lot of supplements on the market for health, but is the Revive Mushroom Complex a product you can trust? What can it do for you, and is it worth the money? Or is it simply another product to drain your wallet?

Recently, we decided to try the Revive Mushroom Complex in chocolate to see if it actually makes a difference in day-to-day life. It claims to support cognitive health, immune health, and overall wellness. But technically, so does a One-a-Day vitamin from Costco.

You could literally grind up a vitamin into soggy cardboard and claim the same thing. Revive, on the other hand, uses various mushrooms in its product. And mushrooms are often connected to well-being.

So, let’s take a closer look at what is in it and whether the claims are rooted in any kind of science.

Breaking Down Revive Mushroom Complex

First, we’re going to explore the ingredients. The overarching elements in this product center around mushrooms. Of course, there are a lot of health benefits that come from mushrooms anyway.

But how does the powder stack up?

Lion’s Mane 2g

Lions Mane Mushroom

Lion’s mane is an odd-looking mushroom, portraying a bulb with tendrils flowing down, giving it the appearance of, you guessed it, a lion’s mane. While most studies of the mushroom’s capability have been on animals, human trials show great promise for a variety of ailments.

Benefits of lion’s mane include preventing neurological diseases and repairing the nervous system, treating depression and anxiety, and potentially reducing the risk of heart disease. In animal studies, lion’s mane was also helpful in lowering blood sugar levels, helping manage symptoms of diabetes.

Another study on mice demonstrated that lion’s mane can also boost the immune system. This was done by reinforcing the intestinal immune system, shielding the body from ingested pathogens. In other words, boosting your gut’s response against things like viral and bacterial infections you consume.

Reishi Mushroom 1g

Reishi Mushroom

The reishi mushroom is prominent in some cultures as being an immune booster and cancer fighter. Its properties include managing the properties of white blood cells, acting as an antioxidant, reducing inflammation, and may decrease blood sugar and triglycerides.

That, alone, means it could be used to help treat high cholesterol.

However, one case study demonstrated that a little over 9% of the participants experienced various side effects of the mushroom. Dry mouth was the most prominent, while other cases included constipation, insomnia, pruritus, and vertigo.

On the other side of the coin, though, the majority of participants experienced improvements against things like fatigue, poor appetite, and depression. So, there is great potential for the Revive Mushroom Complex to provide higher energy levels and mental fortitude.

Maitake Mushroom 1g

Maitake Mushroom

The maitake mushroom is one of the more weird-looking fungi, appearing as though someone took a brain and flipped it inside out. According to various studies, the maitake mushroom may help boost the immune system, manage blood sugar levels, and improve cholesterol.

That would be great, considering my cholesterol numbers were pretty abysmal during my last blood test. In fact, the doctor put me on a statin.

The bioactive compound in maitake mushroom translates to hydrating the skin, healing wounds, and acts as an antioxidant, which reduces the risk of skin cancer. This is why maitake is included in a lot of skin care and cosmetic products. In this case, however, it’s more than likely added for its immune system and heart health properties.

Chaga Mushroom 500mg

Revive Chaga Mushroom

The chaga mushroom looks like a piece of wet, old wood. In the lab, the chaga mushroom exhibited properties conducive to addressing diabetes, obesity, and various cancers while also acting as an anti-inflammatory and general antioxidant. Of course, most of these tests were on animals, such as mice.

Another interesting aspect of the chaga mushroom is the ability to delay physical and mental fatigue. Blood lactate and urea nitrogen were substantially reduced in a study where mice were subjected to swimming-to-exhaustion. This means that the Revive Mushroom Complex powder may help increase energy levels.

However, you should take all of this with a grain of salt. There simply haven’t been enough human trials recorded in peer-reviewed research, and not enough has been done to fully understand chaga. But the capabilities of the mushroom are promising.

Shiitake Mushroom 500mg

Shiitake Mushroom

Out of the mushrooms on this list, the shiitake is probably one of the most recognized. It’s in a slew of products; you can buy them as chips, or you can pick them up to mix in with a daily meal. The shiitake mushroom is quite versatile and common in stores.

As per the claim on the Revive Mushroom Complex bottle, shiitake mushrooms improve the immune system. They have also been linked to overall heart health by having compounds found to lower cholesterol. Also, lab mice had a higher bone density during a study with calcium and UV-enhanced shiitake mushrooms.

The bottom line is that shiitake mushrooms display a lot of promising properties as a great addition to any meal. From gut health to an immunity booster, it’s worthwhile to find a few dinner recipes to include shiitake.

Additional Nutrition

Aside from the mushrooms, the Revive complex powder also includes:

  • Iron (11% DV)
Boosts energy levels, improves brain function, blood oxygenation, muscle endurance and strength
  • Magnesium (4% DV)
Supports energy levels, muscle function, blood pressure regulation, bone health, and stress support.
  • Sodium (6% DV)
Electrolytes, regulation of blood pressure (if not taking too much), and improve nerve signals in the body.
  • Potassium (4% DV)
Lowers blood pressure, regulates heart rate, supports bone density, and prevents muscle cramps and aches.

So, Would Revive Mushroom Complex Work On Humans?

Yes, most of the studies I’ve found regarding the mushrooms all center around lab mice. Now, let’s also consider that only 5% of therapies studied in animals ever make it to being approved by various regulatory agencies.

That doesn’t mean the science behind studies is flawed. Mostly, it comes down to funding and human, peer-reviewed trials. However, the health and fitness industry gets around that by not calling any “supplement” a treatment or cure. Technically, supplements are a subset of food and not drugs. That means most don’t need pre-approval to get on the market.

In any case, the trials of the mushrooms have great potential in lab mice, and many people swear by how effective they work. Plus, the human trials that have been conducted on the above mushrooms have delivered promising results. All five mushrooms demonstrate intended properties, which means the Revive Mushroom Complex powder may do as it claims.

The real trick is to decide if the measurements within the product are enough to promote “cognitive health, immune health, and overall wellness.” Of course, the measurements will be different among people, as we all have varying physiologies.

A gram for someone at 4’11” will have a different effect on someone standing over 6′ tall who weighs considerably more.

The Downside of Taking Revive Mushroom Complex

OK, now for the downside of taking the mushroom powder. It can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks of daily use before you feel the effects from the mushrooms. It’s not something that is going to change your life overnight. This means it’s going to be a long-term addition to your daily eating habits.

While there may be some effects that are felt much sooner, the overall consensus is that you won’t hit the peak wellness until around two months into drinking the powder every day.

The Revive Mushroom Complex ranges between $39.99 and $43.99 per container, depending on where you’re shopping. Unfortunately, I can’t find it on Amazon. Now, considering those prices, it’ll cost about $1.33 to $1.47 per serving, in addition to shipping costs and whatnot.

The bottom line is that you’ll need at least two containers before you hit maximum effect. And then, if it works, it’ll become a monthly purchase. Depending on how well you feel, though, it may be worth the investment.

Experimenting with Revive Mushroom Complex Myself

I am going to try the product for two months to see if I feel any different. It’s chocolate flavored, which means I should be able to add it to my morning protein shakes without an issue. That’s because I am using the Optimum Chocolate Protein Powder from Costco at the moment.

I’m also debating adding it to the blueberry protein powder I bought from Max Muscle. Chocolate blueberries are one of my favorite candies, and using chocolate almond milk has always provided some great results in taste.

In any case, I’ll update this post after two months and relay my experiences with the Revive powder. I just hope it doesn’t make the shakes taste nasty. I have a bit of PTSD from the Palmini mashed episode.

The Power of Mushrooms

There’s no doubt that mushrooms of all kinds have a slew of health benefits. They are often prescribed by doctors to treat a myriad of ailments, ranging from Ehlers-Danlos to managing cancer. And given the studies regarding the mushrooms in Revive, the complex may be something that will improve your lifestyle.

The best we can hope for is that the effects in humans are similar to that of rodents. Still, it may be worth trying out if even half of the claims are accurate.
