Looking for the best peanut butter chocolate ice cream that isn’t loaded with calories? My search continues as I scour the freezer section of many grocery stores. Today, I am looking at the Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Chocolate ice cream tub.

And I have to say, it’s among some of the better snacks out there for health and fitness.

What Is Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Chocolate Ice Cream?

Skinny Cow is a product which focuses on the healthier side of snacking. It has less sodium, carbs and fats when compared to other goods while offering a decent flavor.

For those who love chocolate peanut butter as I do, this is one you may have to try. It has a good taste and doesn’t feel like you’re eating chocolate flavored ice water.

Why Should You Want Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Chocolate?

I spend a lot of time looking for healthy versions of my favorite type of ice cream. And I can say that this product is relatively close to what I’m looking for in terms of flavor and weight loss.

It has a decent array of health benefits when compared to other brands and runs about the same price at your local Walmart or Safeway.

As I have very little will power when it comes to pints of ice cream, things like Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Chocolate let me indulge a bit without suffering the massive number of calories.

This tub of ice cream is just shy of an actual pint. In fact, it’s about 0.875 pints according to the volume on the label.

Good Chocolate Taste

I was quite surprised by the chocolate taste of the Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Chocolate brand. I was half-expecting it to be more like that wanna-be fake chocolate you see in a variety of health snacks.

That wasn’t the case in this ice cream tub. In fact, it’s one of the better chocolates I’ve come across compared to similar products.

Smooth Texture

Another point of the product is the smooth texture. It was a silky experience that doesn’t happen often from light ice cream.

I’ve had gritty, watered-down, waxy chocolate from similar goods, and this one beats all of them in spades. It was hard enough to put the pint down after eating half of it, the texture just made it even more of a pleasurable experience.

Lacks Peanut Butter

The only real complaint I have about this product is the lack of peanut butter. Although you can kind of taste it within the ice cream, it’s not as pronounced as you’d assume from the name.

Still, the small bits of peanut butter I did come across tasted good. It didn’t have that weird, dehydrated, fake powder flavor that’s in some competitor’s ice cream.

What Kind of Health Benefits Are In this Ice Cream?

I’m always on the lookout for healthy snacking without sacrificing some of the finer things out there. And although I still prefer Farr’s chocolate peanut butter ice cream from Utah, this one is pretty good.

So, let’s take a closer look as to what makes this ice cream a good choice. I’m looking at the health benefits from the container as a whole. If you can keep to the 1/2 cup serving size, it’s even healthier.

Low Calories

The Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Chocolate ice cream is loaded with 380 calories for the entire container. To put this into perspective, it has more than half of the calories of a serving of Bryer’s chocolate peanut butter.

High Protein

One aspect that may pique your interest is the amount of protein in this frozen dessert. It boasts about 24g within the entire container. If you’re keeping to a standard 2,000 calorie diet, this is just under half of what you need in a day.

High Calcium

Of course this ice cream is going to be high in calcium. After all, it’s ice cream. In the Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Chocolate variety, you’ll consume 60% of what you need in a day by eating the entire container.

Good Vitamin A Content

The whole “pint” of this ice cream will also provide 15% of your vitamin A for the day. This is a cancer-fighting anti-oxidant which helps skin and hair growth and maintenance. It contributes to collagen development in the body.

Will It Work to Help Lose Weight?

Chocolate Scoop

Like all containers similar to this, I appreciate the low calories and carbs when it comes to snacking. I can feel fulfilled without putting my calorie count in the crapper.

Ice cream is a family weakness. And Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Chocolate helps curb those cravings with far less junk that’s in the other brands.

Of course, this also depends on moderation. Sitting down and eating six of these one after another isn’t exactly healthy. However, serving yourself up a proper 1/2 cup will do well to help you watch the intake.

It’s especially helpful if you’re trying to be more physically active. It has enough protein to help inspire development and you can easily burn the carbs by playing something like the Xbox Kinect for 30 minutes.

Where Can You Get Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Chocolate?

I picked up this particular flavor at my local Walmart. However, I’ve seen Skinny Cow products occasionally at stores like Safeway and Target.

It’s a popular enough brand that I would assume most major grocery store chains would stock this, or at least something like it.

This container cost about $4.99. Which is a bit steep considering the more “unhealthy” pints are about a dollar less. But then, that’s how capitalism works.

If there is interest for a product, people will pay more for it.

What I try to do is look at it in terms of cost per serving. In this case, it runs about $1.43. Unfortunately, that’s more than most of my meals. Which means it’s not very conducive to my grocery budget.

This is aside from the fact that I can’t just keep to 1/2 cup servings. But that’s all on me.

What’s the Bottom Line?

In the end, any snack can be considered healthy as long as you watch how much you eat. Well, that is unless you’re allergic to peanuts. Then you might want to stay away from the Skinny Cow Peanut Butter Chocolate ice cream.

Even though it didn’t have a lot of peanut butter within the ice cream itself, it did have a pretty good taste. I wouldn’t be adverse to trying it again in the future.[template id=”3591″]
