Currently, I’ve been involved in a live podcast on YouTube with episodes being added to Spotify and other platforms. And I have to say, they’ve been a lot of fun. In fact, we’re here debating on starting a fitness podcast as a way to keep ourselves motivated and walking through our weight loss journies.
Those of you who know me, don’t worry, I’m not adding more to my plate. In fact, we’re debating on getting rid of one of my game-streaming nights to record the show.
Why a Fitness Podcast?
Aside from expanding the reach for an audience, there are actually several reasons why I would love to do a podcast like this. And actually, a lot of it has more to do with keeping us on course.
We don’t have the most stellar track record when it comes to a consistent, healthy lifestyle.
Loving the Interaction and Being Social
One of the things I love most about doing the podcast for WriterSanctuary is the interaction from the audience. We do our shows live on YouTube before uploading them to Anchor.
This means people watching can ask questions and be involved in the podcast. In fact, we have several people who watch us every week for the purpose of interacting and learning more about what we do.
To be honest, I don’t think we’d have the same retention level if the show was simply recorded and uploaded. That’s part of the allure of WriterSanctuary. I do two live streams a week with a growing dedicated audience.
Helping with Motivation
We all need help with motivation when it comes to many things in life. And I am certain that expanding to build a fitness podcast would keep me motivated to do better overall.
It’s kind of like a support group where the podcasters and audience members can boost each other weekly to get more out of healthy living. Well, I can’t speak for the others, but I know it would help me focus on fitness.
I know this because WriterSanctuary’s podcast does the same for me on a professional level. I don’t want to let viewers down and do what I can to provide the best information possible.
Showing the Average Joe it’s Possible
Those of us who might be doing the fitness podcast are not in the best of shape. We’re not a bunch of hotties sitting around a table blowing smoke up your butt about being thin and muscular.
And no, the chances of seeing me topless are slim to none…even if I did get down to 195. My friend says I’m a bit of a prude when it comes to stuff like that.
On the contrary, we’re still working on losing a combined total of 1,000 pounds. Well, that is if we can get Chris on board. 😉
My point is that we want to show how it’s possible to overcome obstacles to reach your ideal weight or health level. And how you can do it without surgeries, pills, or intense plans from other “fitness influencers.”
I often talk about using social media as a way to keep yourself accountable. Because when it comes to stuff from home, you’re only accountable to yourself. This is true whether you work from home like I do or trying to lose weight.
There is no boss standing over your shoulder cracking a whip and pointing at a time clock.
I use social media to put my progress out there for others to see. Since I don’t want to look like a fool in front of others, I put more thought and planning into what I’m doing.
In other words, I’m using my audience as a way to keep me accountable for what I’m trying to accomplish.
The Other Podcast Is Fun to Make
Perhaps one of the biggest reasons why I want to make a fitness podcast is because the other one has been so much fun to produce as of late. Not only do I get to hang out with a good friend during the live stream, but I find it fun to interact with the audience.
Keep in mind, I haven’t made a single dime from my YouTube channel or the podcast. Yet, I’ll keep doing them in the foreseeable future because they are that fun to make.
For me, it’s a great way to spend an evening.
What Would Our Fitness Podcast Be About?
At the moment, we’ve been toying with several topic ideas about what we would cover in a show. It would include things like our daily struggles, identifying our faults and overcoming them, things we’ve tried, and ways to stay motivated.
And given our nature and personalities, I’m sure that we’ll have a lot of fun with the topics and not take ourselves too seriously.
I know I would love to go into how I’ve dealt with depression over the years and the troubles of being a stress eater. Or how I’ve used gamification to go from 300+ pounds to 238 and counting.
Essentially, it’s us talking about what works, what hasn’t, and ways to keep us inspired to do better. That people who have problems getting motivated or trying to get into shape are not alone.
That we are all human, after all.
I’ve helped a lot of people through the writing channel on YouTube. It’s my hope that we can help a few more when it comes to health and fitness. If just one person finds value in the content, then I am a happy camper.
In a nutshell, it’s all about how we’re going from where we are today to where we want to be.
If we do commit to a podcast for health, it’ll probably be set up like the other is at the moment. This means it’ll be live on YouTube, then we’ll edit and upload it to Anchor for distribution as an actual podcast.
The Fitness Podcast is Still in Thinking Stage
So, this doesn’t mean that the show will be ready to go anytime in the near future. We’re still in the “thinking about it” stage to start a fitness podcast. But if it does happen, rest assured I’ll blog about it.
If we do decide to set one up, hopefully it’ll take less time to do than it did with WriterSanctuary. It took me about two years to finally commit to that show.
