Here we are, halfway through my latest iteration of the 12-week fitness challenge and I haven’t really done much for fitness. In fact, I’ve only lost 3.6 pounds in total since I began this year. But that’s going to change.
Yeah, I know. I say that every time. And I point out that I say this every time, every time. But after spending a couple of days with Dad, there is a bit more going on than just me losing weight or preparing to box my son in April.
On the upside, I did accomplish a couple of things this week that I am pretty proud of. So, it’s not like week 6 was all that much of a loss.
How Did I Do in Week 6?
So, I was already struggling throughout the week. Then, Dad came to visit on Friday. We spent two days just talking about everything from politics to my brother. He clearly needed to vent and unwind.
He still has an insane amount of guilt regarding my brother’s suicide.
He took us out on Friday for birthday dinners for the girls and then we spent hours upon hours talking one-on-one over two days. Needless to say, it wasn’t conducive to my diet or exercise routines. But he clearly needed an ear, and that’s one of the things I do best.
I’d rather make sure Dad was taken care of than what I’ll weigh in six more weeks. There are some things that will take precedence in life. Caring for loved ones should always be the ultimate priority.
Burning More Calories
Another highlight of my week was burning 1,843 more calories this week than I did the week before. A big help to that was on the 8th when I burned more than 4,400 calories.
I was actually quite active last Wednesday and managed to get a lot of things done around the house.
Although I didn’t get a lot of time at the gym, between house cleaning, the Oculus, and getting back to the Xbox, I was a calorie-burning machine that day. This goes to prove to myself that I know I can do it.
The plan was to spend Friday and Saturday in high-burn mode while eating Keto. I have no doubt I would have lost a lot over the weekend. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be this week.
But that’s OK. Dad left here feeling better overall. And to me, that’s vital.
Getting the Ball Rolling in a Big Way
Am I disappointed that I’ve only lost a handful of pounds over the last six weeks? Absolutely. But it’s not because I’ve tried everything or because I just can’t lose weight.
Nope. Those are common excuses a lot of people throw out there to justify their own lack of effort and determination. And in this case, I had quite a bit of that.
I know I haven’t tried everything, and I know I haven’t put in maximum effort. Today, though, I am far more focused on doing some great things in the very near future.
Perhaps my talk with Dad was just as good for me as it was for him. There’s something different in the air, and I think that I’m now ready to go hog wild over the next half-dozen weeks.
Continue the Burn Trend
I averaged 3,438 calories burned per day last week. I don’t think I’ve hit those numbers for quite some time. This week, I am focusing on the trend and keeping myself as active as I can.
I’m very curious as to how much I can burn if I actually stuck to my workout plans for one week. Maybe I’ll turn that into a challenge for myself.
Who knows? It might even turn into a decent blog post. How much weight can I lose in 7 days if I actually put in the effort to do so? Even though I was somewhat more active this week, I wasn’t as active as I could have been.
More Low-Carb Days
Currently, I’d have to lose 0.95 pounds per day to hit my goal weight. I doubt that is possible without hurting myself a bit. However, I have been known to drop weight rather quickly while doing Keto days.
Perhaps I’ll aim at keeping the carbs below 150 this week. As with the burn trend, keeping the carbs low might make a decent article. Especially since I’m not necessarily eating keto-friendly foods. I’ll still eat whatever I want while trying to keep the carbs low.
In reality, there are a lot of foods I thoroughly enjoy that aren’t heavy in carbohydrates.
The idea is to get close to putting myself into ketosis. That way, I’ll burn more fat than carbs for energy while being more physically active.
Video Recording Every Day
I have a plan for a video I want to upload in six weeks. It centers around me actually sticking with my plans and going all-in with dieting and exercising.
But in order for that video to happen, I need to make video recordings every day. And in the end, I’m sure Dad would appreciate and like the video.
So, it’s as much for him as it is for me.
I’m sure you’ll like it as well. It’s a fun and inspirational idea that might wind up getting me in a bit of trouble with YouTube. But since I’m not monetized anyway, I say let’s have some fun with it.
Sometimes, Life WILL Interrupt Your Plans
No matter how well you plan your week while getting as many ducks in a row as possible, life has a way of interfering. But sometimes, those interruptions are vastly important to address rather than ignore.
The way to keep moving forward is to adapt and do what you can to get back on track. Life isn’t a race, no matter how much people think it is. Will I hit my weight loss goals in six weeks? I doubt it. But I’m not going to let that stop me from trying.
Interruptions will happen, no matter how good the plan is. But you can’t let those situations dictate what you’ll do afterward. Remember, everything in life is temporary. You gotta make the most out of what you got.
Instead of wallowing in what you haven’t done, focus more on where you want to go.
What Can I Do in Six Weeks?
Based on averages, I should still be able to drop 21 pounds in six weeks. That is as long as I can keep a positive mindset and the drive to make it happen. As I said, though, I think a lot of what I want to do is related to the conversation I had with Dad this weekend.
So, here we go…can I hit 218.8 in six weeks? Or can I take it a bit further and lose more? I guess we’ll have to see. In any case, though, it’s going to require maximum effort.
In other words, I need to get off my ass and make it happen.
Go get em, Tiger. Rawr.
Ya know it…
