Since Sunday night, my levels of stress have been dialed to incredible levels. Not only am I stressed about Grandpa’s health, but having to move the entire house around is taking it out of me.
Now, I’ve been trying to keep my eating to logical levels. But I’ve been non-stop moving for three days and still have miles to go before I’m done. So, it’s been quick meals here and there before getting back to work.
On the upside, I’ve lost some of the weight from Father’s Day weekend.
Needless to say, I haven’t been the most focused on intake. I’ve just been working on trying to get the house ready for when Grandpa comes home. That includes drilling a hole in six inches of cement so I can run ethernet cable downstairs for myself and the girls.
Then, for some reason, I was violently shivering last night and couldn’t seem to stop. I jumped in a hot shower for a while, which seemed to help. But by the time I made it back to bed, I started shivering again.
We’re talking extremely violent shaking, here. I felt like I was going to give myself whiplash.
Anyway, I don’t think I’m going to put additional strain on myself this week trying to follow my diet plan. I’ve been burning quite a few calories due to all of the movement and lifting. However, I’m not going to stress myself out if I have a Chick-fil-a Deluxe or some Hostess donuts.
Still So Much to Do…
Right now, I’m taking a break before getting back to the grind. I’m on a variety of allergy meds, as we suspect perhaps I had a nasty flare-up, especially after moving so many dust-covered boxes and furniture.
Yeah, Grandpa’s room was north of nasty.
After we get everything shifted around, I get to start moving my office downstairs. And that’s going to be a chore, especially since there is so much furniture in the way. I still don’t have an idea of when I’ll be able to get back to making videos.
On the upside, my ass is going to be a solid hunk of metal in a couple of months. I’ll be going up and down stairs all day to get coffee and such. In fact, I can already feel the difference in my butt just from the moving I’ve done thus far.
When I say, “feel the difference,” I’m referring to the fact that my ass feels like I’ve been paddled with a wooden spatula for the last three days straight, and not in the good Las Vegas way.
It’ll probably be a few weeks before I get back to some semblance of normalcy. But I’m hoping to at least get back to the live writing sprints and videos for WriterSanctuary by next Monday.
Not to mention that I would love to see my family at the end of July looking like a Greek god. So, as soon as all of this is done, we’re getting back to Maximum Effort!
Benefits of Fitness Beyond Looking Good
I haven’t been able to go to the gym all week. But that’s because I don’t want to burn myself out at the gym and then come home to move thousands of pounds worth of furniture up and down the stairs. Remember, I’m pushing 48 this year. The last thing I need is to burn out halfway up the stairs carrying a heavy dresser.
I can say one thing, though. The time I’ve spent at the gym this year has greatly benefited moving everything around. Unlike my 25-year-old son, who was whining this morning about being so sore, I’m an unstoppable beast.
I told him, “This, right here, is why I go to the gym. So when I have to do something physically exerting, it doesn’t kick my ass.”
That’s one thing a lot of people don’t take into consideration. Going to the gym and adding a bit of fitness to your life isn’t just about looking good in front of a mirror.
There’s no doubt that if it wasn’t for the effort I put in three times a week at Planet Fitness, I’d be a hurtin’ unit today. There are a lot of practical benefits to cardio and weight lifting. It has less to do with ego and vanity and more to do with being able to adapt to life activities.
Excited for the “Game Room”
I’m turning the extra space in the basement living room into a “game room” of sorts. This is where I’ll play the Kinect, Oculus, or set up the table for some card or board games. Another aspect is setting up all of the home fitness gear.
There’ll be plenty of room for everything without having to worry about kids sitting in front of the TV or playing on their computers right in front of me while trying to play tennis on the Kinect.
It’ll be nice to have the exercise equipment more out in the open, mostly so I remember that I have it and that I want to use it. Plus, I’ll have plenty of space to take some photos for equipment reviews and such.
So, it’s not exactly the warehouse that I would love to set up. However, it’s the closest thing I can get for now to help grow all of the different brands and whatnot that I’m working on.
Although I am a bit disappointed to give up my upstairs office, I think the move will be good in the long run. Everyone gets a room, half of them are paying rent to help out, and I can expand my operations a bit beyond the confines of my desk.
Time to Get Back At It
Even though I am not overly focused on hitting my caloric goals this week, I’m trying to keep them within reason. Considering how much furniture I’ve moved thus far and how much is left to go, I should still wind up losing a few pounds this week.
Things don’t always go according to plan, but sometimes work out anyway. All we can really do is our best to manage the stress and keep moving forward.
