Well, my first week of Hot 4 Halloween didn’t go according to plan. It was quite a bit chaotic but for a very good reason. I still lost a bit of weight, so at least I’m going in the right direction.
Everything was going great until I bought something that was a little excessive. And the bedroom set I bought barely fits my room. Needless to say, I tore my house apart yet again.
However, it was all for the greater good.
Why I Only Lost 0.8 Pounds
That’s perhaps one of the most difficult parts of a busy desk jockey for losing weight. I don’t have hours to spend like some of these younger folk. I have bills to pay, kids to raise, and a career to maintain.
This week, it was all about finding peace. I finished setting up my bedroom set yesterday and had one of the best night’s sleep I’ve had in literally years. Of course, it helped that I wound up buying the most expensive bed at American Furniture Warehouse.
The problem is that I bought an entire bedroom set that didn’t exactly fit the dimensions of my room very well. And I spent a lot of time working on the basement and finishing some of the things left over from the Father’s Day incident.
I was moving non-stop for five straight days on very little sleep. So, I didn’t make the most healthy choices for eating or snacking. That’s one of the reasons why sleep is so important; you’ll make fewer bad decisions.
Nonetheless, I am almost a pound lighter this week. It’s all good, though. I know what I’m capable of doing if I set my mind to it, which is why I’ve been pushing to clean up the house.
I’m dating someone now who would have a hard time breathing in the basement due to the immense number of allergens. So, I am trying to get it squared away so she can come over without being hospitalized.
Ah, the fun of having stress dialed to the maximum setting.
I suppose I’m proud of the fact that I didn’t go absolutely bonkers and gain weight throughout this entire ordeal. But I could have reeled back on the M&Ms a bit this past week.
Goals for the Week
My goals for week two are going to be somewhat simple and more related to getting the house organized. As it stands, I really don’t have anywhere to exercise or play the Oculus or Kinect.
But at least I have a nice bed now that is super comfy, even if the set does take up nearly the entire bedroom.
Continue Cleaning and Organizing
I want to get the basement organized and the living room cleaned up. Not just because I want to play my games and burn some calories, but because I would also like to make it safer for those who have compromised immune systems.
Not everyone has an immune system that would choke out a donkey.
Plus, I tend to do better when the house doesn’t resemble the aftermath of a tornado strike. Right now, it’s a mess of boxes, crates, and furniture. It looks more like a rummaged storage unit than a home.
If I play my cards right and keep mindful of my intake, I should still burn enough to lose weight throughout the week. This is especially true considering some of the heavier pieces of furniture I’ll have to move around.
Setting Up My Workout Area
Part of cleaning up the basement is getting a space large enough for exercising. I’ve already started moving my home workout equipment to the basement, but I also need a space large enough to play the Oculus without backhanding someone in the face.
I used to play in my bedroom, but the new set has made that impossible.
The basement won’t take long to set up, though. Most of it is empty boxes and trying to figure out what I’m going to do with a couple of shelving units. It’ll be nice once it’s all put away and straightened up.
Then, I’ll need to steam-clean the carpet. Grandpa let things go down here, and the carpets are a bit of a mess. Yet, it will all be worth the effort in the end. That is as long as I refrain from buying any more furniture for the next few months.
Getting More Sleep!
My new bed is super comfortable, and even the Fitbit ranked my sleep score higher than it had since I lived in the hotel back in 2020. So, I won’t be able to use discomfort as an excuse for being tired. Now, it’s up to actually going to bed on time.
I think that will be quite a bit easier nowadays. I no longer dread getting into bed and my upper back doesn’t feel like it was pounded with a golf club. It was a nice feeling when I woke up this morning.
Granted, I’m still stressed a bit. But at least the lack of sleep and a sore body isn’t a contributing factor. Imagine what I can get done when I’m not always tired or hurting in some way.
Turning it Up This Week!
OK, I kind of staggered in week one. I could have done better, but I’m still moving in the right direction. This week will all be about determining how much of a positive impact getting sleep can actually make on your day-to-day activities.
I already know it’ll be a much different week overall. That’s because I’m not running on four to five hours of sleep every night and trying to move a house around. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can lose in week two.
Let’s get this back on track so I can do something amazing for Halloween.
