I was doing quite well throughout most of the week keeping the calories green. But I decided to give myself a weekend off as the plan was to do some drinking and play some games. Since I’m not going to Utah, I figured it would be a nice mini-vacation.
The funny part is that I still lost 0.8 pounds on Saturday but gained five pounds on Sunday!
Now, this would be something to be concerned with if not for the fact that I know I gorged myself quite well throughout Sunday. This included having one hell of a dinner from Olive Garden.
How I Gained 3.2 Pounds This Week
There’s no doubt in my mind that I would have been under 230 by Tuesday if not for taking my little reprieve from health and fitness. And do you know what? I’m not overly stressed about it.
Sure, I gained 3.2 pounds this week, but I am confident that I’m going to wind up flushing most of that down the toilet over the next couple of days. In fact, depending on how active I am, I might actually hit below 230 by at least Wednesday.
I’ve also been working on making sure I take regular breaks to play the Oculus or go for walks. Aside from the weekend’s festivities, I had a decent average of both calorie burn and steps. But I can tell you, it was nice not having to worry about anything all weekend long.
This was the first time that I had an entire weekend off in I don’t know how long.
The Food Last Week
Perhaps the most impressive for me was keeping the calories green for at least five days. And if it weren’t for being talked into having a “fun” weekend, I bet I would have kept the streak going.
I didn’t quite hit my goal of keeping the carbs under 150 grams throughout most of the week. That’s my sweet spot for dropping weight rapidly. However, I did manage to increase my protein intake on gym days, and I’ve felt much better overall. I’m not nearly as wiped by the end of the day if I am at around 90 grams of protein by lunch.
In any case, I didn’t do too badly overall and look forward to seeing what I can do in Week 2. However, I do need to drink a tad more water. I’m going to try to hit 10 cups per day aside from coffee and tea.
The Exercises Last Week
I was only able to get to the gym twice last week. Time just wasn’t on my side last Monday, and I missed my window. But it’s all good. I managed to crank out a lot of time while playing Beat Saber last week.
To be honest, I’m quite impressed with how well I can work up a sweat playing Beat Saber. It’s not as grueling as Virtual Smash, but the calorie burn is slightly more than tennis on the Kinect. Needless to say, Beat Saber is probably one of my better purchases lately for weight loss.
I would love to mix things up a bit more, though. Unfortunately, I have my son staying in my living room still. That means no access to my TV or the Xbox when I have the time. I suppose I could try playing before dinner, as he has been working later in the evenings.
What’s the Plan for Week 2?
As I said, I’m not disappointed in myself for gaining three pounds. It was to be expected, considering taking the weekend off from virtually everything and enjoying myself.
However, it’s time to get this show on the road if I want that “summer bod” I talked about before. I would love to start June in the best shape of my life.
Wow…that’s kind of sad, really. I am going to be 48 this year and I’ve never been this healthy. Oh well…better late than never, I suppose.
Increasing Step Count
In week 2, I would love to surpass my total steps. And as long as I do anything on Saturday and Sunday, I should be able to with no problem. That’s because I intend to keep up with making sure my calories in MyFitnessPal stay green, which means more gameplay and walks.
Theoretically, I should average more than 10k per day if I stick to my routine. What I would really like to see is my calorie burn completely green in Fitbit. My goal on that app is to burn more than 3500 calories per day. With the exception of last weekend, it was looking pretty good.

Regardless, I’m looking forward to racking up some steps…even if I have to do so by walking around until 11 pm.
Keeping the Entire Week Green
I can’t remember the last time I kept with my Net 600 Calorie diet for longer than a week. It had to be back in 2018 when I dropped quite a bit of weight. Of course, I lost even more when I lived in the hotel for a month and a half while waiting for the house.
But that was during the height of COVID. So, I essentially lived off of high-protein, non-perishable foods.
Anyway, this week, let’s see if I can keep to my diet plan. If I do so, that means I should be able to drop half a pound per day, if not more. That really depends on how physical I get throughout the week.
Nightly Shorts Uploads
I’ve been uploading regular Shorts on YouTube for my weight loss journey. It’s getting to the point where it feels more like a habit than anything, much like how I felt about going to the gym three times per week.
I don’t have much to say, but that’s not the point of the videos. Remember when I talked about using social media as a way to drum up some accountability? Well, that’s why I’ve been uploading nightly Shorts videos.
The overall plan is to keep them going throughout the entire 84-day stretch (12 weeks).
Let’s Get This Going…
Currently, I don’t have any foreseeable downtime for the rest of this challenge. Although my son’s birthday is in May, I don’t think a single day will throw a wrench in my plans. This is especially true with how committed I’ve felt this time around.
So, will I hit my goal weight of 215 by May 1st? Eh, I bet I hit it before then. I have a few ideas for the near future that should impact my weight loss journey in profound ways.
In any case, I’m looking forward to June.
