Week 9 H4H: Getting Back to Basics

Back to Basics
09 Oct

This past week was quite uneventful for weight loss. I’m definitely not hitting any goals before Halloween. However, I think I’m in a mental place to get back to basics. And so far, Week 10 has been going well.

That’s the trick to losing weight and keeping it off: mental stability.

If you’re not in the right mindset or don’t really care, you’ll find success far more difficult to achieve. This is true whether you’re doing a fitness challenge or just maintaining your job.

It all begins with being in a good mindset.

Unfortunately, maintaining a positive frame of mind is exceptionally difficult for many of us. All we can really do is try our best and continue to strive to become something more in the end. In my case, it’s longevity. I don’t wanna die anytime in the near future.

What Does it Mean to Get Back to Basics?

For me, getting back to basics is kind of like restarting my efforts. No, I’m not going to shit-can this latest challenge and start over. Instead, I’m going to see what I can do in the next three weeks by refreshing my mindset.

Things have been such a mess here for the past few months, and I’m working on balancing everything. It’s a work-in-progress, but I think the effort is paying off a bit.

Essentially, I’m going back to some of the things I wanted to accomplish in the beginning when I started doing all of these challenges. I kind of lost sight of why I was doing certain things in the first place.

Getting Back to Regular Blogging

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve managed to get Crossing Colorado back on a semi-regular schedule for content. Well, starting from last week, that is. And I’m getting myself back into the groove of looking at everything like “content.”

Part of that is because I would still love to rebuild this blog back to its 2018 days. It’ll take quite a bit of work, considering it feels like Google is gunning for me. However, I am the type of person who loves a good challenge. Getting CrossingColorado.com back into its glory days is going to be one hell of a challenge at that.

Anyway, blogging always seems to keep me focused and centered on what I’m trying to build. This is for my body as well as the website. Everything just seems to click into place from a mental standpoint.

New Case Studies for ColoradoPlays.com

I love doing case studies on myself. For one thing, it’s a great way to figure out baselines and what you can handle. The hardest part is staying motivated enough to see them through.

Recently, I made a deal with a few people to get ColoradoPlays.com back to where it was at the beginning of the year, only with more pep and pizazz. That includes hiring a writer…as long as I can keep affording to pay him.

Anyway, I am working on a few case studies that involve losing weight while playing certain games on both the Oculus and the Kinect. Since I upgraded to the Fitbit Charge 6, I figured it wouldn’t be a bad idea to collect new data and finish some of the case studies I’ve started.

This week, I’ve been working on the calorie burn for Fruit Ninja on the Oculus.

Net 600 Diet FTW!

Now that my Fitbit is connecting to my phone once again, I’m getting back into my Net 600 Calorie diet plan. I was doing great yesterday, until everyone brought me some ice cream from Coldstone.

Still, I recorded everything and am in the process of losing weight again. It was only a 0.2 pound difference from yesterday, but it’s forward momentum, nonetheless.

The reason why I am so adamant about my Net 600 diet is because it is tailored for being physically active while reducing caloric intake. I don’t want to just lose weight; I also want to be more fit. It worked exceptionally well for me in the past, and I would like to see how much it can help during the remaining three weeks of this particular challenge.

As I’ve said a number of times before, the best diet plan is the one that works best for you. And this particular diet plan works very well for me. Or, at least it did several years ago. I am very curious to see if it still works as well today now that I’m rounding the horn at 50. I have two years before I am a half-century old, and I’m still trying to come to grips with that.

Reorganizing My Day for Efficiency – Still

To say that my days have been haphazard lately would be a gross understatement. Ever since the Father’s Day incident, things have unraveled quite quickly, but not always for the worse, though. It’s still chaos, but in a different form than what it has been.

Sure, I’m still putting a few things on the back burner because I have so much cooking. But there are a lot of things that are coming to a nice simmer that have been freaking amazing.

Not to mention that there are a few things going on right now that I’m doing for pure spite. Eh, it’s a motivator no matter how you slice it up. It’s like that saying, “The best revenge is living well.”

Well, some people are about to find out just how well I live.

Week 10 Is Gonna Be Great!

I’m motivated and looking forward to some positive news to share next week. While I am way off from where I wanted to be at the start of this challenge, it’s been an interesting and positive few weeks.

Haphazard? Absolutely. Stressful? Without a doubt.

Positive and meaningful? In ways that go beyond a blog post.

So, let’s see if I can maintain my diet and exercise routines for longer than three days this time around. Although I was slightly red yesterday, I can still lose quite a bit of fat if I stay the course. And I have so many positive things going on right now that I’m feeding off the energy.

Let’s finish the Hot 4 Halloween challenge strong. I might not be as “hot” as I wanted to be, but I can still be the lightest I’ve been since 2020. And in the grand scheme of things, that’s all that really matters.
