My six weeks of keto expired last Sunday. I think I lost a total of 15 pounds, but I really didn’t stick to a strict keto diet. Still, I find myself eating a lot of the same foods I did during the experiment.
And no, this doesn’t include the Palmini mash. That stuff was like trying to choke down a soggy diaper. It was bad to the Nth degree.
However, I do like quite a few things we ate during the keto experiment. And I have so much more to go over in the coming weeks.
Keto Isn’t All Bad
My brother-in-law was giving me crap during the live stream when I first decided to try the keto diet. His explanation was, “I like to eat.”
Well, keto isn’t about starving yourself. It’s more about reducing the processed carb intake to force your body to use fat instead for energy. And although there are a lot of things on the market that are more expensive compared to their carb-heavy counterparts, it’s not all that bad tasting.
For example, I had a two-egg breakfast this morning with a bit of onion, cheese, and bacon bits. Not only did I feel satiated, but it’s now one of my favorite breakfasts in general.
Mostly because I can make them in the miniature pancake maker sitting on my counter.
Essentially, it’s two egg bites that I can customize the hell out of. In fact, that entire breakfast was only 236 calories, and I feel great. Especially since we figured out that I’m one of those people who actually have to eat in the morning.
Otherwise, I’m lethargic as hell in the afternoon.
I Kind of Like the Keto Snacks
I have a shelf full of snacks we bought for the keto diet. And, truth be told, I kind of like them all. I’ll have more reviews coming out soon about each one.
Now, there have been a few that really didn’t sit well with me. Some just didn’t have a sweet enough flavor to really satiate some of my cravings. But for the most part, I quite enjoy the snacks I have available.
In fact, I’m having one right now. Parm Crisps Snack Mix, Ranch flavored. It’s actually quite tasty.
Think of a nut mix dusted with ranch flavoring.
The only thing I wish is that the keto snacks weren’t so expensive. I’m spending about three times the grocery budget, but getting far better quality in terms of healthy eating.
Still Need to Lose Weight
I am still in the process of reaching my weight-loss goals. Though, I’m sure those are going to change once I get down to below 210 pounds. I’ve actually toned and added quite a bit of muscle mass over the past month.
The keto foods are helping maintain that plan.
Even though I am back to my Net 600 Calorie Diet, I am consuming far fewer carbs than I had in the past. Theoretically, this should help me drop the rest of the weight relatively quickly.
I stopped stepping on the scale a week or so ago. As I’ve been lifting more weight, the scale says I’ve hit a plateau in weight loss. Though, the pictures I’ve been taking say otherwise.
I’ve actually been replacing fat with muscle. So, the scale isn’t really going to be much help for the time being. I’ll step on it on Sunday, but right now, it’s not really much use.
I Like Trying New Things
Another reason I am still eating keto foods is that I like to try new things. How do you know you don’t like it unless you give it an honest attempt?
That’s precisely how I know that I hate Palmini mashed “potatoes.”
It’s also the reason that I know I really like most Quest products. I really enjoyed the chocolate chunk cookie. I’ll get more of those so I can write a review next week, but they are pretty good.
The bottom line is that there are few foods in this world that I won’t try. You never know, you might find something that becomes a routine staple…like my eggs in the morning.
And if you stumble across something you really like that is far healthier for you, all the better!
Diet Foods Don’t Need to Suck
When a lot of people hear “diet food,” they imagine eating foods that are less than ideal. Yes, if you want to lose weight, you need to put down the donut and snack on something healthier.
But, they don’t need to be bland or otherwise taste poorly. We’ve concocted several dishes that were simply amazing, and all being keto-friendly and incredibly healthy.
So, before you start bashing a diet plan because it’s not laden with sugar, consider what you can make out of it. For me, there’s a lot of things that are keto-friendly that I simply love.
