Why I Write About Healthy Living

I’ve wanted to be an author since I was in seventh grade. Back then, it was extremely difficult to break into the world of publishing. You needed an agent, money to cover expenses and many other things that could easily prevent you from reaching goals. Now, I am rounding the horn at 40. I am a far cry away from where I wanted to be when I was younger. Thanks to the innovations of the Internet, I am able to at least realize some of those dreams. Since my current interest include a healthy living for myself, blogging seemed like the logical choice for now.

Writing About Healthy Living

Over the past decade, I slowly packed on a lot of weight. My choices for work pretty much decimated any actual physical activity. It got to one point where I weighed more than 280 pounds. It wasn’t until 2015 when I watched bicyclists pass by my store in Pedal the Plains that I realized I will never be able to enjoy any of that unless I change.

At that point, I decided to start Crossing Colorado. As the name implies, I wanted to ride from one side of the state to another on my mountain bike. This site is a record of how I went from being obese to the shape that I am in today.

You Are My Inspiration
This site is full of information that I have accumulated while trying to achieve a healthy living. But, that’s not the entire reason why I write. Essentially, I am using you as my muse. Those who visit my blog or watch my YouTube videos are helping me stay motivated to keep going. You’re my inspiration to share my knowledge. I want to prove to myself as well as the rest of the world that anyone can have a better lifestyle.

Sharing the Knowledge
I believe in free knowledge and education. I am not one of those people who will find a “secret” and sell it to the masses to make a buck. I believe in empowering others to take control of their situations. If something I create helps someone lose weight or find a career as a freelance writer, then my job is complete.

Enjoying What I Do
I’m a firm believer that you should always do what you love. If you’re in a career that makes you miserable, everything in your life will be affected. I enjoy creating new pieces of material, whether someone reads it or not. Currently, I get paid for writing online. But it’s my blogs where I can relax and delve into what I want to write about. Don’t get me wrong, I love my clients. There are just days when I want to do something for me. My sites give me that opportunity. I am able to express myself whether it’s through healthy living or playing video games.

It’s Therapeutic
I find that I am much more relaxed when I am created content for myself and my readers. It’s a way that lets me vent in a constructive manner. For someone as stressed as I, creating content is very therapeutic. When ever I feel like I need to relax, boom…another blog post is created. The hardest part is writing without children knocking down my door tattling on each other.

It Helps Me Learn
When you write things down, your brain has a stronger chances of committing it to memory. This is why teachers will have students write down things in class. You have to put more thought into what you’re creating in order for it to make sense. In fact, that was the original idea behind a blog in the first place: a platform to lay down your knowledge for future reference. Writing about healthy living helps me remember those facts. I think that is why I love to write about any topic – I love to learn new things.

Going Beyond Healthy Living

Although Crossing Colorado is more focused on fitness and proper eating, this isn’t my only interest. I am a freelance ghostwriter who has created works ranging from animals to travel. I simply love to write. This is why I have a few other blogs that I am developing in addition to this one. As of today, it’s the only time I can really see my name in print and be proud of what I have accomplished.

So, this is my raison d’être regarding why I love to write. Health and fitness are only one of the facets to my existence, and I’m very eclectic when it comes to interests. Creating my blogs is a way that lets me expand into all the things that interest me without my sites looking like a collage of random thought – not that there’s anything wrong with that. Find what interests you and embrace it. Being creative in any form is as much for you as it is for the audience you wish to engage.
